This research proposal is being submitted to the Department of Energy for continuation of grant no. DOE DE-FG03-96ER40965. Support is requested for myself and one graduate student for the purpose of carrying out fundamental research in theoretical nuclear physics. The main areas where I have achieved signiicant progress during the last year are: 1 Light-Front quantization and the transverse lattice Together with a graduate student at NMSU (B. Klindworth), I have continued to study the (rest-frame) Q Q potential in QCD on a transverse lattice, quantized on the light-front. First of all, we have extended our 2+1 dimensional calculations 1] to include additional interactions in the eeective link-eld potential. These eeective interactions have been introduced in Ref. 2] as an \improved inter-action" in order to obtain better rotational invariance and better agreement with the known (from other lattice calculations) glueball spectrum. The primary results from our calculations with this eeective interaction are that Fig. 1] For separations by one or more transverse lattice sites, rotational invari-ance for the Q Q potential has been even slightly improved compared to the calculations without eeective interaction. For purely longitudinal separations, there are systematic deviations from the points measured in transverse directions. We interpret the 1
